Skye Canyon, Las Vegas is a tranquil retreat in a city best known for its bright lights and round-the-clock entertainment. This master planned neighborhood is located between the foothills of Mt. Charleston and Interstate 11 that leads right into the heart of Las Vegas. 1. WORK UP A SWEAT IN SKYE CANYON COMMUNITY PARKS

   Wherever in the neighborhood they live, residents are just a short walk away from a park. Skye Canyon currently has five community parks open everyday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and have well-maintained facilities for running, swimming, and playing sports. These green spaces are spread out evenly throughout the four quadrants of the Skye Canyon, Las Vegas area with Skye Canyon Park in the middle.

   1. Skye Canyon Park is the largest of these community parks. Located on the corner of West Skye Canyon Park Drive and Skye Village Road is this 15-acre active space designed to be the hub of community events, placed literally in the heart of the neighborhood. Here, you can find the clubhouse and a couple of coffee shops.

      The Skye Canyon sales office is also located here. Every Thursday afternoon, a farmer’s market sells fresh produce from the surrounding farms and orchards. This park’s other outdoor spaces are filled with active facilities including a 6-ring basketball court, a junior Olympic swimming pool, and a grass field with goalposts for soccer and football. Snaking through the field’s perimeter is a half-mile walking path. Kids can play to their heart’s content at the tot lot, splash pad, and children’s pool.

   2. Eagle Canyon Park occupies a smaller facility on the southeast quadrant of Skye Canyon on the corner of Eagle Canyon Avenue and Mountain Landing Street. This park serves the residents of Skye Canyon Phase 1. With a smaller area to work with, Eagle Canyon has fewer amenities but retains the tot lot and splash pad, basketball court, grass field, and walking path. It also has covered gazebos perfect for family picnics.
   3. Skye View Park, less than a mile west of Eagle Canyon, is walkable from anywhere within Skye Canyon Phase 2 (the southwest quadrant. This pet-friendly space features two separate fields for small and large dogs. Skye View is also the only community park with pickleball and tennis courts.
   4. Big Skye Park is another pet-friendly park in the northeast quadrant with similar amenities as the park in the south.
   5. Star Light Park , the newest of the five community spaces, services the residents of northwest Skye Canyon.

2. ATTEND SKYE CANYON COMMUNITY EVENTS

   Various community gatherings take place throughout the year at Skye Center, the 8,000-square-foot clubhouse in Skye Canyon Park. Residents are invited to celebrate:

   • Holidays like the Fourth of July, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve, with themed decorations and entertainment to make each year distinct.
   • Unique events like the ChalktoberFest, an art fair to welcome the autumn. Chalk artists create art on the spot, children learn to paint, and vendors sell anything from food to artwork and curios. This comes a few weeks before the anticipated Halloween celebrations where participating residents decorate their homes and the children come in fun outfits to the annual pumpkin patch and costume party.
   • The yearly Fit Fest is a day of outdoor enjoyment open to residents and the general public. Runners of various experience levels can choose between a 5K, an 8K, or a one-mile fun run, with Skye Canyon Park as the common starting point. Throughout the day, the field is filled with live music, food trucks, and fun activities for the kids.

3. SIP COFFEE, ORGANIZE A BARBECUE, OR JUST HANG OUT AT SKYE CENTER

   Skye Center serves not only as a venue for events planned by the homeowners association, it’s also a place where residents can have their own gatherings. While admission to the event is free, guests can buy a ticket for a chance to win a high-end commercial telescope.

The constellation viewing begins after dark, at around 8 p.m. Everyone is invited to see the heavenly bodies up close by peering through the provided telescopes until the event ends at 10 p.m.

   Organized by the Scottish Highland Games Association, the annual Highland Game are a favorite attraction among the locals and are typically held over a weekend at Floyd Lamb Park. One highly entertaining and unique display of strength and skill is the caber toss wherein competitors throw a large wooden pole, trying to make it land as upright as possible. 10. PICK WHAT YOU EAT AT THE NEIGHBORING GILCREASE ORCHARD

    Borne from Gilcrease Ranch that supplied food for generations of valley residents, Gilcrease Orchard is an agro-tourism landmark where visitors hand-pick seasonal produce straight from the plant. This lovely estate lies on Whispering Sands Drive just 10 minutes from Skye Canyon.

    The orchard has three distinct areas, a fruit orchard, a vegetable garden, and a sunflower field, from which people can pick produce and flowers. A farm stand sells picked berries, root vegetables, and readily packed farm products such as jams and apple cider.

    Ready-to-eat concessions also sell snacks at a separate stand. Of these, guests adore the apple cider and carrot cake doughnuts the most. Their savory options aren’t too bad, either. Burritos have vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and quesadillas come in four flavors.

11. GET SOME RETAIL THERAPY AND DINE OUT AT TIVOLI VILLAGE

    Enjoy upscale shopping in this Summerlin lifestyle district along Rampart Boulevard, less than 20 minutes from Skye Canyon. Tivoli Village is a stylish, open-air mall complex inspired by European architecture that has everything from clothing and dining to pet grooming, salons, gyms, and home essentials.

    The stone-paved alleys feature various high-end fashion stores such as Joeleene , Vasari , and David Tupaz Couture . Art galleries like the Desert Valley Gallery feature a collection of vibrant paintings and complex sculptures that capture the imagination while Basner Fine Art focuses on captivating photographs of architecture and cityscapes.

    Numerous dining options at Tivoli Village cater to various tastes and lifestyles. Echo & Rig is a local favorite. This no-nonsense steakhouse and butcher shop not only serves delicious protein, their cocktails and famous portobello fries complement their steaks perfectly. They also have balcony seats overlooking the fountain and roundabout.

    Al Solito Posto and Leone Café are two of the best Italian options in this part of the city. The former is a restaurant found right across Echo & Rig. Popular among regulars is the rigatoni alla vodka, chicken marsala, and duck ravioli. Leone Café is more ideal for brunches and late afternoon patio dining. They specialize in coffee, pastries, and pasta.

12. PLAY AT A DINOSAUR-THEMED PARK CLOSE TO SKYE CANYON

    Families will have a lovely day out at Aliante Nature Discovery Park, a beautifully landscaped green space just 12 minutes east of Skye Canyon, Las Vegas. The park has a public library, two beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, and bocce ball courts.

    Several ducks, geese, and turtles wade in Marble Creek Lake, which also has an artificial waterfall and two bridges. Aside from the animals, kids will enjoy the splash pad and multi-story play equipment surrounding the lake. The dinosaur-themed playground has a “fossil” sandpit where children can play among the prominent replica of a triceratops skull and a pterodactyl-shaped structure that provides shade for the children.
